When I first expressed an interest in User Experience design, my previous line manager pointed me in the direction of Steve Krug’s excellent book; ‘Don’t Make Me Think’. 9 years later, this is still my go to resource and it’s the first book I guide designers and other team members (developers, managers, product owners) towards. This book is a relatively simple, short read and articulates the essence of user-centric design. It focuses on principles and foundations of design and focuses less on visual aesthetic. As user mental models change with new applications, interfaces and devices, the message of this book stays true today and will always provide an essential weapon in every UX or UI designers arsenal.
